Homeade Halloween

We are all trying to save money. Dean and I stopped going to Starbucks (four dollars for a coffee...each...is kind of alot) Shopping on the base instead of the Island. Riding the bus to the ferry instead of driving (ok, that was all Dean). Halloween costumes are expensive and mostly not creative in the least. The rule this year was no bloody ninja, no grim reaper, basically if it has a black cloak and a weapon...it's out. It would save some money to make the costumes right? Ummm sure. I've never sewn anything in my life, but it's going to be dark when they trick or treat anyway so I gave it a try. After some family brainstorming Sam decided to be Rudolph the Roadkill Reindeer and Ben wanted to be a Sorcerer (he was kind pushing the "no cloak" thing) One sewing machine and trip to the fabric store later (Ok, a few tense words on my part) and the kids had costumes. I think the best part was having the kids help me paint one of the tires on my truck with black paint and running over Sam's costume for that true "roadkill" effect. Ben picked out the perfect material for his "cape" (not cloak) and both kids looked great. They both have big ideas for next year....

holy moley those are impressive Halloween costumes! Cool ideas and way cool that you made them!

All that snow made me cringe. I know the other side you speak of, the pain of cleaning it and driving in it ... hence I live in Florida now, haha. Thanks for all the fun updates!

I LOVE those costumes! I would have never been creative enough to come up with a Roadkill Rudolph idea - so kudos to Sam - AND Ben got the sorcerer pose down perfectly! LOVED it! Nice work April!
