Ben has a green thumb to say the least. He surely didn't get it from me. I can kill a plant faster than anyone I know. In March one of my clients gave me a beautiful shamrock. It died almost immediately. Ben rescued it from my clutches, replanted the pitiful root ball (on his own) and it regrew! It is bigger than before and doing nicely. I just admire it from a distance. Shortly there after Ben's third grade class grew pinto beans. Pretty soon, not only did he have one growing in his classroom, but we had baggies full of wet paper towels and pinto beans all over the house. TWELVE sprouted baggie bean plants later we told him this needed to be an outside project. Great! Ben was ready to dig up all 3.5 acres and plant a garden. After hours of trying to find a happy medium, he settled for some "garden pots" on the deck and the bathtub out by the barn**. We now have beans and strawberries for the entire Island.
** Our property used to be a working farm. We have several old cast iron claw foot tubs around the property that were used for watering the cattle. Dean and Ben painted the one by the barn green, filled it with the "right"kind of dirt and now it holds beans, strawberries, and recently he found a potato that was sprouting "eyes" and planted it. It grew of course.

Ben, that is so super cool and such a great talent! Keep it up. I am really jealous- I have your Mom's ability to kill off any plant.

Unbenlievable! We are super impressed with the gardening skills, we need Ben out here to teach us a thing or 2 about starting out own.
I agree with Kev - we need Ben to come down south and give us some gardening lessons! You'll have to let us know what yummy things you make with your homegrown goods!
Great job Ben!!! I am impressed. Ben is not only a fisherman but a farmer. I loved doing both when I was a kid. Keep it up Ben.
