Whales!

We hoped our adventure to Friday Harbor this weekend would be fun. Hiking, geocaching, and looking for whales. I didn't think we actually see any whales. Right time, right place and all of that. I had the "we'll have to come back another time and maybe we'll see some" speech prepared. I was AMAZED by what we saw. A mother with her calf, and another HUGE adult whale. The calf jumped out of the water, splashed his fins around, just played and played. The mother came out of the water and the huge male (that's a guess) got very close to the shore. We watched the whales for about 45 minutes. I was also surprised how loud it is when a whale breaches (comes up to breathe). The big male came up to breathe many times while we were there and every time is was...startling. We heard there are more and more whales up in that area as the summer goes by. I think we might even go up next weekend.....
